We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Sam Trigila, CAHP, CEO of Clifford Restoration, as Chair of Willowbank’s Strategic Philanthropic Capital Campaign Committee. Sam is a respected leader in Canada’s heritage restoration sector, bringing decades of hands-on craftsmanship and executive leadership to this important role.
Sam began his career with Clifford Restoration as a summer student at the ripe old age of 15 and apprenticed with the top masons to become a skilled mason, developing a deep appreciation for the artistry, discipline, and precision required in working with historic materials. Over time, he advanced from the trades to leadership, guiding Clifford Restoration into a nationally recognised firm renowned for excellence in heritage conservation and complex restoration projects. Under his leadership, Clifford Restoration has revitalised some of Canada’s most significant historic structures and is recognised as one of the country’s premier firms specialising in the conservation of historic buildings and architectural landmarks.
Sam’s work has earned national recognition for craftsmanship and conservation and is defined not only by technical expertise but also by a profound respect for the cultural and historical narratives embedded in the buildings he preserves. A highlight of Sam’s career was leading the restoration of St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica, a project honored with the William Greer Architecture and Craftsmanship Award, one of Toronto’s highest distinctions in heritage conservation. The award recognised both the architectural integrity and the extraordinary craftsmanship required to preserve the Cathedral’s 19th-century Gothic Revival beauty while integrating modern systems—a true testament to Sam’s skill, heart, and leadership.
As Chair of the Strategic Philanthropic Capital Campaign Committee, Sam will guide Willowbank in strengthening financial sustainability and supporting strategic investments in our programs and historic campus, ensuring the School continues to train the next generation of heritage conservation professionals, while preserving our unique National Historic Site. Sam’s career path—from mason to CEO—mirrors the very philosophy of Willowbank: that conservation is both a craft and a calling, requiring skill, stewardship, and a deep sense of responsibility to future generations. His appointment reflects a shared belief that the preservation of heritage is essential to cultural identity, community continuity, and national legacy. We are honoured and delighted to have Sam lead this campaign into the next decade.
