Much research has been done on the Beaverdams Methodist Church site located on Marlatts road in Thorold. The Thorold Library has a compilation of reports by Jon Jouppien(1999), Peter Stokes(1991), Nora Reid(1991) and the caretaker, Jim Smith(1998). Willowbank’s purpose in including the site in the Documentation Program is to create a visual record of the building laying the groundwork for restoration work and needed repairs.
The two storey timber framed building with wood cladding was constructed in 1932. The twelve over twelve windows have been replaced with two over two and seven of the upper windows have been filled in. Most of the clapboard has been replaced over the years leaving just an area on the façade with what appears to be the original clapboard. The church was extensively renovated in 1879, it is possible that the ceiling of the first floor which was originally open to the barrel ceiling on the second floor, was enclosed at that time. The interior features include the original tapered columns, pews and examples of early bead board and hardware.
