Per Neumeyer Bursary Fund

Per was a stone carver and master stone mason from Denmark. He graduated with a silver medal awarded by the Danish Associations of Artisans. He worked on major Historic monuments including the Royal Palace (Amalienborg) in Copenhagen. Per received advanced mason conservation training in Mortar analysis and ruin repairs, sponsored by English Heritage at Fort Brockhurst in the United Kingdom.
In 1999 he started his own company, Perdan Limited, specializing in Monument and cemetery conservation and restoration. Prior to forming his own company, he worked with D.J.McRae Contracting Ltd. on carving and masonry restoration of projects such as St. James Cathedral, Ontario Legislature, Whitney Block, as well as condition reports and restoration of historical cemeteries. Per has developed many specialized techniques in the field of conservation which have been put to use in many projects. He was co-creator of the monument repair workshop with Tamara Anson-Cartwright, Ontario Ministry of Culture.
Per Neumeyer was respected for his innovative and intuitive way with stone. He approached his work with creativity and expertise. He was admired for his gentle and patient demeanor, dedication and hard work. He believed in and modeled commitment, integrity and honesty in his daily practices. He was respected for his skill and his passion for sharing his knowledge with new trades people. Per was generous with his knowledge not just with the trades but with the entire conservation community. As a devoted family man he emulated strong values and the importance of family. He would have been truly honoured to know that his name was to be associated with the support and empowerment of future skilled stone carvers and restorers.
